"Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that" MLK

Anyone who knows me knows that I do not support the current government.  However, when I have thought and prayed this quote from Martin Luther King Jr comes to mind.  I cannot change the circumstances in and of myself.  I am not a politician, I do now have the loudest voice in the room or the most money in the bank.  I am a mom to a multiracial family, I am a tutor to sweet kids from all over the world, I am a Christian woman who doesn't fit the stereotype of the southern Christian woman.  Plus at this point in our world, what would it all accomplish, its always like a pendulum swinging wider and wider year after year separating sides and people and families hating what the other sides stands for or tolerates.  No I am tired and I want off of that.

My heart is my superpower, I can love.  I can love on those who feel lost, forgotten, scared, ashamed, tired.....  I can show love in a smile to child who for a moment feels safe, I can show love in an extra bag of groceries to the food pantry which so many depend on, I can show love by spending time with someone who is lonely.  Getting coffee with an overwhelmed mom, or seeing my precious grandbabies on the phone!  I think we have forgotten in some ways that every small gesture can make a huge difference.  This world is already so split, we have to find ways to reconnect, human to human or we will continue to create a world that is unable to see others as our sisters and brothers regardless of what we look like or what we believe.  We are all made in God's image, no one is greater than another.

Whatever comes in these next 4, 8. 12 years I hope I can remember that real change comes through love and when I see hate, I can recognize it for what it is.  My hope is that people stop mixing politics and religion.  That we can see people as individuals and not a collective group of these and those.  Love can conquer ignorance, love can conquer unbelief and love can conquer hate.
